5 Fun Fall Family Activities in Petaluma

October 17, 2016

The summer sun is gone, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had with your family in the fall! Below, you’ll find 5 of our favorite autumn activities.

Pick Apples at the Local Orchard

Picking fresh, juicy apples from your local orchard is a great excuse to get outside – and there’s still lots more fun to be had after you leave! With all the apples your family picked, you can make homemade apple cider. Or a couple warm apple pies. (One for you and one for your favorite neighbor.) Make sure to leave some of your haul uneaten, so you can leave them around the house and add fall flavor to your home.

Get Lost in a Corn Maze

Go far enough out into the nearby country this time of year and you’re bound to find a corn maze. Take your time exploring the puzzle. And encourage your kids to take the lead and decide which direction you should go in. Don’t worry about getting lost – that’s half the fun!

Decorate Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies are a simple treat to make, and they’re a chance for kids to get creative. Cut the cookies into traditional fall shapes, then whip out the frosting and let your kids go to town with the decorating! Compared to painting or drawing, cleaning up these supplies is much more tasty.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Tis the season for pumpkins! There’s all kinds of things to do when you spend a day at the pumpkin patch. Hop along for a hayride around the patch, then bring some of the straw back with you for a homemade scarecrow. Watch the kids argue over who gets to bring home the biggest gourd. And after you’re done carving your jack-o-lantern, don’t forget to season and bake the seeds for a savory treat.

Jump into a Pile of Leaves

A timeless classic. (And a sneaky way to turn yard work into something fun.) Wait until the trees in your yard have shed a good chunk of their leaves, then rake them up for your children to jump into. For maximum happiness, build their leaf pile as big as you possibly can!
