4 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Stick To

January 5, 2018

Happy New Year Petaluma!

With a new year comes new opportunities and new goals to set and meet this year. We understand that setting new goals and sticking to them can be a job in itself, take going to the gym for example. While it’s a great and healthy goal to set, it can be a hard one to stick to with our busy schedules and life here in Petaluma.

We’ve put together a little list of 4 easy to stick to goals for this new year that we’re convinced anyone can stick to.

1. Sleep

You deserve it! Sleep is important and most of us aren’t getting the right amount of sleep every night. Which is understandable, we’re busy people, but busy people need their rest too and getting a great night’s sleep is the best way to do just that. The magic number of hours of sleep we should aim for is 8, not less and not more. Get in the habit of going to bed at the same time every night, avoid using any of your electronic devices right before you try falling asleep. Doing so will help you fall asleep faster and get a better night’s rest, feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead.

2. Read More

Put down your phone or your tablet and set some time aside to read. No, not the latest breaking news article online, but actually read a book. Set aside 30 minutes a day to read an actual book, maybe try to make it a goal to read one book a month, any type of book. Escape your hectic life and travel into a world unknown and go on an adventure within the comfort of your own home.

3. Disrupt Your Daily Routine

Now this may sound kind of harsh at first, but what we mean here is that you should try something new each and every day. Instead of doing the same thing every single day, mix it up a bit. You know that coffee shop you stop at on your way to work? Skip it and visit that little local coffee shop you’ve always been curious about instead.

You know how everyday at work during your 15 minute break you grab your cell phone and check your social media accounts? Take those 15 minutes and go on a walk with a coworker instead, disrupt your daily routine and do something you normally wouldn’t.

4. Learn and Keep on Learning

Whether it be learning how to knit or learning how to speak Italian, make it a goal to learn something completely new this year. Grow as an individual and take the time to do something you’re genuinely interested in. It doesn’t have to be crazy and it doesn’t have to be expensive.
